WINE SPECTATOR
Jan. 31 - Feb. 28 2007

Burgundy: 2004 Côte de Beaune/Meursault

Meursault Genevières: “Rich, honeyed and very concentrated.  The flavors border on apricot, with citronella, hazelnut, mineral and spice from new oak adding grace notes.  Very creamy and long, with energy and a vibrant structure.  Best from 2008 through 2005.”  94 Points

Meursault Perrières: ”Racy, lean and rippling, with new oak dominating the lemon and mineral flavors for now.  Very firm and intense, but all the elements are there.  Refined finish.  Give this time.  Best from 2008 through 2015.” 93 Points

Burgundy: 2004 Côte de Nuits/Gevrey-Chambertin & Grand Cru

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze: “A beam of sweet cherry, spice and mineral shoots like a laser across the palate in this powerful yet racy red.  Packed with fruit, this is all about fruit and terroir, with a terrific mineral aftertaste.  The oak character emerges on the finish, yet it’s not oaky.  Best from 2009 through 2020.” 95 Points

Mazis-Chambertin: “A core of black currant and raspberry offsets the dense tannins in this intense yet elegant ’04.  Vibrant and long, with the tannins emerging on the finish.  Tightly wound.  Needs time to resolve itself.  Best from 2009 through 2020.” 95 Points

Charmes-Chambertin: “Intriguing aromas of rich earth, olive and juniper pick up cherry and spice on the palate.  Sweet and fleshy, with ripe tannins around the edges and lovely balance and harmony on the finish.  Best from 2008 through 2018.”  94 Points

Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles St. Jacques: “Ripe and ample, with concentrated cherry, wild berry, earth and mineral flavors.  Vibrant and long, this needs time for all the elements to come together.  Fine resonant finish.  Best from 2008 through 2015.”  93 Points

Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut St. Jacques: “Delicious, with a distinct minerality, hints of tobacco and a streak of black currant.  More generous than the Estournelles St.-Jacques, with beautifully defined fruit, wonderful balance and a long aftertaste of blackberry and mineral.  Best from 2008 through 2018.” 93 Points

Bourgogne Rouge 2004:
“A silky texture marks this red, with candied cherry and raspberry flavors.  Rich, ripe and well-balanced, with enough tannins to see it through the decade.  Drink now through 2010.” 87 Points
